INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS
In 2014, Biosphere Soundscapes introduced an international research internship program focused around the interdisciplinary possibilities of acoustic ecology. The program has supported artists and scientists through Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Mexico.
Our internship program is flexible and involves a mixture of self-directed research practice and mentored development. Our interns can design their own Biosphere Soundscapes research project or collaborate on an existing research project. We accept applications from emerging artists, scientists and community leaders and will work with you to develop a program that supports your ideas and provides you with a strong foundations to work on large-scale interdisciplinary projects in the future.
We also view our internship program as a stepping stone to joining Biosphere Soundscapes in other capacities. As an example Emmanuel Galvan Martinez, a graduate from our 2014 international internship program made a significant impact as both an artist and creative producer. During his internship, he formed numerous partnerships and facilitated the development of Biosphere Soundscapes in Mexico in collaboration with Leah Barclay. His successful contributions resulted in a promotion to Associate Producer where he is currently leading the development phase of several projects in Mexico, including our labs and residencies in Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve.
Successful interns will receive a mentorship, advice and support for one year. The internship program does not have a specific amount of funding attached to projects, but interns may have the opportunity to travel to conferences or events or participate in residencies of workshops during their internship.
Applications for Biosphere Soundscapes for the 2018 internship program have been selected and will be announced at the 2017 Perspectives on Listening Symposium in December 2017.
