Biosphere soundscapes @ Floating Land 2013

Picture

Through great art, Floating Land 2013 explores the natural world's ancient practices and how it provides knowledge, insight and bio-inspired solutions towards a sustainable future. Over 10 days in May/June 2013, this Sunshine Coast Council initiative encourages artists and community to play with nature's ingenuity through immersive workshops, performances, installations and presentations that celebrate our rich biodiversity. By merging arts and culture with science and the environment, the event aims to contribute to positive global change through education and conversations.

The Biosphere Soundscapes project is designed to inspire communities across the world to listen to the environment and re-imagine the potential of Biosphere Reserves as learning laboratories for a sustainable future. The project connects and inspires the communities of global Biosphere Reserves through emergent technologies, innovative creative practice and soundscape ecology. The Noosa Biosphere Soundscapes residency involves onsite field recording workshops with leading Australian and New Zealand artists in addition to master-classes with American digital media artist Andrea Polli.

The residency also includes two field trips where artists will participate in field recording, sound walks and sound mapping in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve. These opportunities are open to emerging and professional artists who have an interest in acoustic ecology, environmental field recording or sound art. Field recording kits are available for artists without their own equipment.
